it had an amazing theme: cirque de bebe. It was like a french circus, with plastic zoo animals in glass bowls (resembling their natural habitat), big colorful feathers, french-themed foods (quiche, french macarons, ratatouille).

the week in.... Food!
we got this really neat new paper pad at Anthro on saturday while wasting a rainy day at the mall. Now, on sundays, after grocery shopping, we plan out the week worth of meals.
for today, let's look at last week and review our eating decisions:

(click for a slightly larger version)
RECIPES:
1. for leek bread pudding, see here .
(make sure you buy your bread at Iggy's )
2. sugar snap peas:
-saute tons of garlic and ginger in olive oil. add sugar snap peas, saute for about 2 minutes, just until crisp. add liberal amounts of soy sauce, rice wine vinegar and a drizzle of toasted sesame oil, all based on how many peas you cooked. YUM!
3. honey sesame shrimp
-combine 1 cup flour, salt and pepper. make a well in the center, add 1 egg, 2/3 cup water. stir, set aside for 10 minutes.
- roll shrimp in 2 tbsp cornstarch. dip in batter. fry until cooked.
-heat 1 tbsp sesame oil, add 2 tbsp honey in a small pan. heat until honey is melted. add shrimp, stir until coated. sprinkle with sesame seeds.

punch drunk love

i've been obsessed with thinking about boxing. i think about how fun it will be to box and hit something inanimate to let out my stress. it's like screaming at the top of my lungs with the windows rolled up in my car. no one knows how good it really feels.
we visited G+k's new house a couple weeks ago. they have a bag hanging from the ceiling in the garage. i gave it a few jabs and knew instantly i wanted one of my very own. but where would i hang it? where would it go? would i really use it? new bags were very expensive. mauricio convinced me i didn't need one, i had no where to put it. end of story.
then, as usual, i was scouting the trash on his street. and lo and behold, an amazing free-standing heavy bag was sitting on the sidewalk with a beautiful hand lettered "free" sign on it. i snatched it up, threw it under my arm, and carried it safely to his basement.
now i just need some sand and some gloves and maybe the rocky theme song?
let's move it, move it
at work the company is all about MOVEMENT.
it's a new slogan, a new advertising campaign, and they're trying to get us moving while we're at work and while we're not at work.
this week, a new workstation was installed in our department. it's called a walkstation. you sign up for 1/2 or whole hours, and walk and work. it only goes to 2 miles/hour, so it's an easy walk. i have to read a lot of magazines, so i just spent 30 minutes walking and reading. and it flew by! but everyone that walked by me had to make some funny comment, because no one else is really using the walkstation yet. it's an easy way to get in a quickie mile! if only Z was here :)

weekend in maine
We escaped to portland, maine for the long valentine's day weekend.

We randomly picked a place that looked convenient to shops and restaurants on google maps, and it was a pretty good pick- We ended up with a corner room with the most amazing views of the city!
Eastland Park Hotel website

We just walked our freezing asses around town all weekend. We took off in the car on Sunday and went to Kennebunkport to walk around.

There was one highlight of stopping in this tiny, cold, windy beach town:
Daytrip Society
Onward we went, to Old Orchard Beach for lunch.
After eating all the clams the restaurant had to offer, we goofed around on the beach until our toes froze and then made a mad dash for my amazing heated seats to take us back to Portland.

We ate a ton of seafood. Sushi, sushi sushi. MMMMMmmmmm.

One night after dinner we bought hot moroccan mint tea to keep our fingers warm.

Down the street from our hotel was the most amazing little independent coffee house.
Coffee By Design
I bought some espresso beans, and i've been enjoying them all week.
